Changing Pharmacies? We’re Here to Help
PBDRx offers a comprehensive pharmacy network with over 50,000 local, regional, national chain and independent pharmacies to ensure access no matter where life takes you. If you’ve recently found a new pharmacy that’s more convenient or offers a better fit for your needs, the process of moving prescriptions is often as simple as 1-2-3.
1. Choose Your New Pharmacy
Use our Find a Pharmacy tool to locate a pharmacy that’s in your plan’s network. Enter your geographic location and plan details, which can be found on your Member ID card. You’ll see a list of nearby pharmacies ready to help. If you have a member login, choose “Search as Member” and your plan details will be automatically included in the search.
Once you’ve chosen a new pharmacy, it’s time to give them your personal and health insurance information. You can do this over the phone, in person, or online in some cases. Have your Member ID card ready.
2. Transfer Your Prescription
To make sure your prescriptions transfer smoothly, you have two options:
- Contact your doctor(s) directly. Ask your doctor’s office to send a new prescription to your chosen pharmacy. Even if you don’t need a refill now, the new pharmacy can keep it on file for when you’re ready. You will need to contact each office separately and ask for new prescriptions to be sent to the new pharmacy.
- Check with your new pharmacy about a possible transfer. Some pharmacies may be able to transfer your prescription(s) from your old pharmacy. Certain pharmacies even offer this service on their website. Contact your new pharmacy to see if they can transfer your prescription directly, or they can guide you on the best next steps.
3. Cancel Refills
Make sure to cancel any automatic refills at your old pharmacy. This way, there’s no confusion when your prescriptions move to the new pharmacy. After the switch, you'll be able to manage refills through your new pharmacy and take advantage of any available refill services that make staying on track with your medications easier.
Quick Tip
Planning ahead can help ensure you don't run out of medication during the transfer process. Consider starting the switch before you're due for your next refill!
